I come here after church service. The waiter was very nice. The food presentation unique and large food portions My only issue was the restaurant 1914 does not have an AC installed over-the-celling and so it makes it very hot while dimming in. R/Eric

So good!! Was looking for a late dinner place after touring around campus and found this gem! They have a very extensive menu, so I just took the recommendations from the VERY nice staff. So easy, ordering can be in person or on their kiosk (which has pictures). We went about 35 min before they were closing and they didn't mind at all! Food came out fast, tables were available and cleaned quickly, and it was such an enjoyable little simple spot on the drag. I personally got the black pepper beef rice bowl and YUM it hit the spot! Saucy, fresh ingredients - I couldn't ask for a better Chinese hole in the wall

Super close to the UT campus and the AT&T Conference Center. Ambience: This is a rustic and simple restaurant. That is almost tucked away in the very back of an alley? Service: Self-serve your drinks and order at the Counter if you want to pay cash. The lady at the counter English is limited. My Chinese was limited and I had no cash, so I used the ordering machine. You order dine-in or take out. I dine-in. So you order and then sit. When your food is ready it is brought to you in plastic container and you are given plastic silverware. My plasticware was very thin and the fork started to bend trying to grab my chicken. I really needed chopsticks but it was starting to get busy and I did not want to bother her, so I made do with my fork and spoon. Food: I watched as other people's food came out, all the portion sizes are huge. I ordered traditional Sichuan Chongqing spicy chicken extra spicy. The last time I had this dish was in Beijing and I was having a craving. In Beijing they stuff the peppers with corn meal and fry them. Here they do not stuff the red peppers, but the chicken was cooked just like in Beijing. The chicken was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Since I got it extra spicy, there were jalapeno bits mixed in with the dried peppers. I could taste the Sichuan peppercorns and then I got a small hint of numbing. I recommend that you shake the dish up prior to eating. I noticed that as I got to the middle of the dish, the numbing was more noticeable compared to the top pieces. By the bottom I could feel the heat and numbing at the same time. If I am ever in the area again, will eat here again and learn the Chinese word for more Sichuan peppercorn please. They also serve American Chinese food. I looked around and those dishes did not really look good, but the place was packed with people ordering American Chinese. I will say the Chongqing chicken is worth the higher price and as close to Beijing as you can get in downtown Austin. Cleanliness: below average
